Luxury Destination Weddings in Malta are becoming increasingly popular and this tiny island promises endless opportunities for those couples looking for a European destination wedding.
Boasting some of the best weather in the Mediterranean, we were delighted to enjoy gloriously sunny days when we visited recently. We were invited on a luxury destination wedding planning tour of Malta, courtesy of Malta tourism authority, I do knot Malta and Intercontinental Malta who showed us around the island.
Malta is beautiful – it has a turbulent and inspiring history, as well as a gorgeous landscape, beautiful beaches, crystal clear waters, an array of gorgeous wedding venues and outstanding hospitality. All of this equates to a perfect combination for a fabulous destination wedding location.
Whilst Malta’s picturesque landscape is beautiful for a wedding throughout the year, the weather in May and June is often in the region of 25 degrees with beautiful blue sky and wall to wall sunshine. That said, if you would like a sunny destination wedding, then you a guaranteed gorgeous weather in the Summer month!
We stayed at Intercontinental Malta, a five-star hotel conveniently located in the heart of St Julian’s, just 20 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the island’s historical capital, Valletta. We checked into one of the hotels spacious panoramic suites, with access to the intercontinental club lounge. The lounge offers a private check into all guest members, a dedicated check-in and check-out service. Your very own butler, a delicious breakfast, afternoon tea, all day refreshments, as well as pre-dinner drinks and canapés…and being located on the fifteenth floor, the impeccable service comes with the most amazing views over the island.
We visited a selection of beautiful wedding venues, including luxury villas, private palaces, beachside restaurants and were totally charmed by the endless possibilities of choices for destination weddings in Malta. From opulent historical venues with dramatic and picturesque backdrops, lavish private villas with beautiful gardens to rustic vineyards and waterside venues. Malta’s capital city Valletta is sprinkled with neo-classical and modern architecture, with an historic waterfront location. You can marry on the harbour, in one of the many gardens, town squares or churches and everything is so close together that it is quick and easy to transport your guests around the island.
As well as visiting some of the best wedding venues in Malta, we were lucky enough to explore the island too. We visited the grand harbour (the deepest and most dramatic harbour in the Mediterranean!) the watch tower and Gardjola Gardens overlooking the harbour, which boasts magnificent views across the water to La Valletta and Marsaxlokk, a traditional Maltese fishing village with the most brightly coloured fishing boats (called Luzzu’s!) dotted across the Mediterranean. On our last evening, we dined at Xara Palace, a Relais Chateaux hotel in old town Mdina. Their award winning De Mondion restaurant is located above the old bastions and has the most amazing panoramic views over the island. The food was delectable, service was impeccable and the staff were accommodating and attentive.
We have returned to the UK full of excitement about this tiny island and cannot wait to plan a wedding there soon. Having met a handpicked selection of fabulous Maltese wedding suppliers, we know that a wedding in Malta will be perfect for Planned for Perfection couples and their wedding guests.
