COME TO BED AT THE SAVOY

Last month, a rather intriguing invitation arrived at the offices of Planned for Perfection asking us to “Come to bed at The Savoy”. Designed by Armorial, a bespoke London Stationery company based in Mayfair, the invitation read…

“Sunset, twilight, midnight, dawn, you’ll experience before you yawn,
a draft, a drink, a bite to eat, be careful not to fall asleep.
You’re wide awake right now, we’re sure, so don a robe & please explore more!”

How could we refuse!!

The invitation only event was a collaboration between London Wedding Planner Bruce Russell and Christopher Mills from The Events Mill to showcase a selection of top London wedding suppliers at The Savoy Hotel. An “audience” of wedding planners and event organisers, were invited to experience everything that this iconic hotel has to offer…An unique visit with outstanding comforts, all of which were served in a few hours!

The dress code was bedroom chic, from silk lingerie or cotton pyjamas to fun onesies and for those who had come straight from work (like we had!), a Savoy dressing gown was handed to us as we reached the top of the stairs.

As we entered the River Room, which had been transformed to what can only be described as a dreamlike wonderland, we were taken into a magical world, where we became the audience to a very extraordinary & clever performance, described by the organisers as “a transitional theatrical piece which takes guests through sunset, twilight, midnight & dawn” … and we were literally living the dream!

Throughout the evening, a girl remained asleep in one of the beds that had been made in the room and the performances that were happening throughout the evening were here dreams… There were interactive theatrical performances, which included models, ballet dancers, acrobats; An Alice in Wonderland book lay beside a bedside table allowing the Mad Hatters Tea Party theme to be incorporated in to the night, there were actors in Victorian night dresses actually going to bed, contortion artists expressed how dreams move in unusual ways, there was an insomnia corner for the girl that couldn’t sleep and an 18th Century Lady of the Party held a puppet show inside her skirt!

At “midnight” night dresses were removed to reveal party dresses and the partying began, a butler and maid tuned down the beds and at dawn a milkman even made an appearance to deliver milk! The evening ended when the girl woke from her dreams to sing a beautiful morning song!

As well as the surreal performances happening around us, we sipped Champagne as we were served dinner, dessert, supper and breakfast, all in the space of four hours by the team at London Weddings.

As one would expect from The Savoy, we received first class service, delicious food and the attention to detail was unsurpassable – we could even count sheep thanks to a revolving from Tuck Box cakes.
